  • (n): (cinematography) a black aluminum spool holding 100 feet of film with solid, opaque sides, that protects film from becoming exposed when loading a camera in daylight. The name alludes to the fact that the film may be loaded without total darkness. 400-foot daylight spools are very rarely used because they do not always function consistently in a camera's film magazine.
